![]() The aspect of the UI that I found most confusing initially was the vertical text navigation at the extreme edges of the window. This is part of the reason that the UI seems a bit cluttered at first, but it definitely has its advantages when it comes to speed and consistency. This means that you’ll get larger previews of your full-size images without having to constantly show or hide aspects of the interface (although you still can, if you want to).Īnother interesting choice is that Corel has decided to buck the trend of following Lightroom’s module layout system, instead choosing to keep every tool and feature in a single main interface. Instead of placing the filmstrip navigation below the main working window, it runs vertically down the left side of the preview window. Once you start to get used to the interface, you can see that it’s actually rather well-designed in a style that takes advantage of the extra horizontal width of widescreen monitors. ![]() It’s worth noting that the main introduction video appears to be slightly out of date at the time of this writing, showing some minor UI changes compared to the version I’m using. You can visit the AfterShot Pro learning center through the Help menu, though, and their videos were able to provide some of the basic information about using the program. As you can see below, the interface is a bit busy and there is no introduction or tutorial splash screen to provide any guidance. General Interface & WorkflowĬorel managed the download and installation process very carefully, so I was a bit surprised to be dropped into the deep end when it came to actually using the software. Please also note that the screenshots below are taken from the Windows version, so if you’re using AfterShot Pro for Mac or Linux the interface will look slightly different. ![]() Instead, we’ll look at the most common uses of the program, as well as anything that makes it stand out from the other RAW editors on the market. A Closer Review of Corel AfterShot Pro 3ĪfterShot Pro 3 is a large program, with a number of different features that we don’t have time or space to go into. My training as a graphic designer also included courses on user interface design, which helps me sort the good programs from the bad.ĭisclaimer: Corel provided me with no compensation or free software in exchange for this review, nor have they had any kind of editorial review or input on the content. Over the course of my photographic practice, I’ve experimented with a number of different workflows and image editors, giving me a wide range of insight into just what can be expected from a top-notch program. ![]() I trained as a graphic designer while teaching myself photography at the same time, eventually working as a product photographer shooting everything from jewelry to artistic furniture. Hi, my name is Thomas Boldt, and I’ve been working with image editing software for over 15 years. The best way to find out is to read this review and then test it for yourself! Why Trust Me for This Review If you’re not interested in doing localized edits, though, AfterShot’s compact one-screen workflow and better initial rendering might be able to convince you to switch programs. Speedy batching is great, but AfterShot’s clumsy localized editing has a long way to go to catch up to Lightroom’s excellent local options. While seems to be faster, there are still some issues that Corel will have to overcome to properly challenge Lightroom. AfterShot Pro uses its own proprietary algorithm to render RAW images, and it almost always produces better results than ACR. Lightroom uses the Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) algorithm to render images, which often come out with narrower tonal ranges and slightly washed-out colors. One of the most interesting differences between Lightroom and AfterShot Pro is the way they render the same RAW images. Front and center on the AfterShot Pro website is a claim that the latest version handles batch editing up to 4 times faster than Lightroom, and you can read the datasheet they published here (PDF). Is Corel AfterShot Pro Better Than Adobe Lightroom?ĪfterShot Pro is Corel’s direct challenge to Adobe Lightroom’s dominance of the RAW editing market, and they aren’t ashamed to admit it.

![]() It will be up to Marina to restore the Island and take photos of its inhabitants and their unique behaviours. He wants Marina to travel to Maravilla Island and save it, as the magic is fading. You play as Marina Montez, a wildlife photographer, who has her grandfather’s journal and camera. So after the hype and the must play rail photo experience Pokemon Snap comes Beasts of Maravilla Island, with a similar concept but totally different. The perfect way to start with the genre and full of charm and whimsy, this is a wholesome experience I’ll be returning to again and again.Review Rush was kindly supplied with a review code. ![]() Beasts of Maravilla Island did just that and scratched the photography game itch I never knew I had. ![]() It is rare that I feel so compelled to play a game in a single sitting, so late at night and utterly enjoy every single second I played. I wanted my diary to be full of great photos. There is plenty of replayability even when you have found them all so long as you get hooked onto the photography element as I did. Each area has about 30-40 different species of animal to find and photograph so if you don’t spot them all the first time, you can dive in via chapter select. Admittedly, that is the quickest way to get through and discover all the animals as you go but it did feel one level too short (it has 3 large areas to roam). That’s just as well as the game is only 2.5 hours long. It is a very chilled and relaxed experience and when it looks and sounds so vibrant and beautiful, I didn’t want to rush. Outside of photos, the puzzles are extremely simple and easy to complete and aside from a not-really-a-boss boss battle finale, you aren’t in peril either. The camera options are streamlined and simple. Patience and timing are key – the animals do their own thing if you leave them be. I found myself wanting to get birds flocking together in flight or several animals in the same shot. Flip through them, discard them, get artsy with angles or just photo the scenery instead – it is all up to you. Your photos then go into your diary and you can keep up to 20 photos of each animal type. It is simple, easy, free of jargon and intuitive. You can zoom in and out and flip it around for the fun selfie mode (complete with facial expressions to choose from). Your camera is literally a point and shoot camera. It is a curious decision because initially, I wondered if I’d be bored being so hands-off but then I found the voyeur side of things fascinating. You can whistle call them as a playful back and forth to get them to perform those actions but aside from that, you are an outside observer. Birds will fly around, other creatures will hide and some might need photos taken when they are doing certain things. ![]() Instead, you are led down almost entirely linear paths into showcase areas with a variety of different creatures to photograph. The story isn’t the main thrust of the game. Playing as a teen girl who doesn’t seem to believe in magic anymore, she arrives on the island to discover the magical beasts of Maravilla Island are starting to run into trouble. Some of these beasts are just too wholesome for this world. ![]() We have entered into transactions similar to this transaction with the selling security holder in the past. Whittier became an outspoken critic of President Andrew Jackson, and by 1830 was editor of the prominent New England Weekly Review in Hartford, Connecticut, the most influential Whig journal in New England. Shortly after a change in management, Garrison reassigned him as editor of the weekly American Manufacturer in Boston. Garrison gave Whittier the job of editor of the National Philanthropist, a Boston-based temperance weekly. Whittier valued the opinion of the older and more established writer, pledging that if Neal did not like his writing, " I will quit poetry, and everything also of a literary nature, for I am sick at heart of the business." In an 1829 letter, Neal told Whittier to "Persevere, and I am sure you will have your reward in every way." Reading Neal's 1828 novel Rachel Dyer inspired Whittier to weave New England witchcraft lore into his own stories and poems. His sister Mary Whittier sent his first poem, "The Deity", to the Newburyport Free Press without his permission, and its editor, William Lloyd Garrison, published it on June 8, 1826. Whittier was first introduced to poetry by a teacher. Whittier was heavily influenced by the doctrines of his religion, particularly its stress on humanitarianism, compassion, and social responsibility. Although he received little formal education, he was an avid reader who studied his father's six books on Quakerism until their teachings became the foundation of his ideology. Whittier himself was not cut out for hard farm labor and suffered from bad health and physical frailty his whole life. The farm was not very profitable, and there was only enough money to get by. As a boy, it was discovered that Whittier was color-blind when he was unable to see a difference between ripe and unripe strawberries.
